Chance Meeting
He waved his hand in greeting/ For everyone to see/ But as I said my own hello/ He turned his eyes to me/ His words were sweet and cheery/ As he asked me for my name/ He teased and I could see him smile/ As if this were a game/ I thought with hesitation/ "I'll pay him little mind/ "He'll win my heart and break it"/ Oh, I had known his kind/ His confidence was magic/ His lines seemed well rehearsed/ But there was more to understand/ Than what I'd thought at first/ I heard him speak of family/ His love for them immense/ Each word he spoke revealed his heart/ In silent evidence/ I saw a man of conviction/ Intelligence and wit/ Some one who fought for what was right/ And not think twice of it/ A little boy behind the man/ In backwards baseball cap/ A man who sees a crying child/ And holds them on his lap/ As time has passed he's made his way/ Into my lonely heart/ The wounds of past are healing now/ In this he's played a part/ If nothing else he's taught me how/ To open every door/ To listen to my heart’s desire/ And trust in it once more |
Rescue
